Have you ever wondered what could possibly be the appeal for so many women who absorb themselves in romance novels regularly? A lot of women have vast collections of these types of books that they would not part with because it contained a particular story that moved their imagination to a certain place and time that really inspired them. Everyone who loves to read has a specific kind of writing that attracts them the most whether it be science fiction, history, modern situations, mysteries, or others. Those who love historical romance books can sometimes get a little of all of these topics.

There are is one female author, Danielle Steele, who has made it really big in the writing world. Many of her first books were historical romantic situations, but in the past decade or so she has changed her writing style to include more modern romantic situations in the present time period. These books have been successful to the point of being made into movies for television. Her fans are very dedicated and anxiously wait for whatever she writes next.

Another lady named Beatrice Small has written several great historical romance novels that are set in exotic places with some very intriguing heroines and heroes. In some of her books the characters cross vast expanses of water and end up in far away lands where they encounter intrigue and love that can be breathtaking. Phyllis A. Whitney, another female author of this kind, writes her romances with a twist of mystery that is usually set in similar time periods. Many of these novels are set in the time periods between 1700 and 1900.

Historical romance novels are not typically directed at men, but mostly women who love to read. They can be transported to another place and time that represented a different way of life. Many times the history involved in these novels are really accurately written and require the author to do a lot of research to make sure they are correct so that the reader gets a great history lesson into the bargain.

Although some novels of this nature will have some sexual content, with some being more explicit than others, the older novels tend to have less explicit situations while some of the newer versions can get pretty steamy. If you enjoy more subdued passionate situations, then you might search for some of the older historical authors, but if you like fire and passion with more explicit content, some of the newer authors tend to write more this way. Either way you can visit another place and time and meet some very interesting characters along the way.
